Hervey Bay offers the holidaymaker a large range of things to see and do.
Whale watching is at its best from late july to late october. Having given birth in far North Queensland waters, Humpback Whales with their calves stop in Platypus Bay off the mainland side of Fraser Island to rest and regain their strength for the long journey back to Antarctic waters.
Visit Lady Elliottt Island at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef for excellent diving opportunities.
The Botanic Gardens in Elizabeth Street offer offer mainly native flora and have an excellent Orchid house.
Deep Sea and inshore fishing charters are available.
Joy Flights over Fraser Island offer excellent views of forests, sand dunes and the numerous fresh water lakes.
The iconic Urangan Jetty, saved from demolition in the 1980's was formerly used for the import of fuel, oil, and other necessities, and the export of timber from the local district and Fraser Island, and the export of sugar from the Wide Bay area and coal from the Burgowan Colliery. Today it offers excellent fishing.
Dolphin, Dugong and Marine Turtle tours may also be taken.
